BLACK TECHNO MATTERS w/ JUANA, DIYANNA MONET & JESSICUNT
Sunday, January 19 2020
BTM HQ v1
Washington, DC
“We’re excited to announce the launch of BLACK TECHNO MATTERS as a community space. The coming together of family, friends, and neighbors to grow each other. In this case, to encourage and expand the black experience in techno.
Our mission is to reclaim techno as a manifestation of black expression in a society that has oppressed it. There is no shortage of spaces with white faces behind the turntables or on a stage. And yet the very roots of techno were planted by black artists in Detroit. Our aim is to create spaces that celebrate the black roots of techno. An assertion and a reminder that BLACK TECHNO MATTERS.
This event is not a capitalist venture. We are paying the artists, providing equipment, sound, lights, and drinks using our own money. We are not getting a paycheck from a bar or club when the event ends. That is why we are asking for a $20 donation or whatever you can provide (it does not have to be money) to support this event. Any profit will be put toward future BLACK TECHNO MATTERS events such as live music, workshops and seminars.”
