Bio

Bernard Farley is a multi-disciplinary artist and founder of Black Techno Matters with an electronic music career spanning 20 years and covering genres from techno and electronic pop to ambient and experimental music. Under the name Outputmessage, he’s put out dozens of releases starting in 2003 with “Bernard’s Song”, released on Ghostly International while he was studying number theory and algebraic topology in college. Other highlights include the electronic pop of “40000km” (2012) and the protest music video “Wake the Fuck Up!” (2020) which shows his talents as a performance artist. As B_X_R_N_X_R_D, his music blurs the line between DJing and live performance, using a suite of roland drum machines, synths, and fx to create mesmerizing and intricate sonic journeys. His recent album, hell0, veers from the hypnotic to the hallucinatory and contains the techno anthem, ‘Safeword’, where, on top of a thumping beat, he repeats the refrain: “The safeword is DECOLONIZE”

What Does Liberation Mean To You?

Liberation is a state of mind, free from fear and in harmony with nature and the universe. Liberation is a decolonized state of being, where one is free to make their own choices, create their own resources and make their own life for themselves, their family, and their community. Liberation is only the first step toward freedom. The state of being free must be cultivated and defended from oppressors and colonizers who use their freedom to rob from others. Liberation and freedom are priceless and cannot be owned or purchased with money. It is on the shoulders of our elders to pass down these concepts and knowledge so that future generations may continue down the path of liberation and freedom in both body and mind.
